According to IMAO, if Fred Thompson was President of the U.S., terrorists would not have to travel to visit "ground zero". Ground zero would be wherever the terrorists were.
If so, Fred's got my vote!

It seems to me that President Bush could regain some ground - at least in my estimation - if he agressively focused the world on what is happening in Burma.
Remember the President standing in New York with the Bull Horn after 9/11. Let's set Iraq aside for a moment. All Americans - indeed all free people on the planet- are with the Monks and people standing up to tyrany in Burma. My suggestion to the president would be to marshall the focus of the world on what is happening. Challeng China - directly on what is happenig. Fly to India- the world'slargest democracy- and make a "Tear down that wall, Mr. Gorbachuf" speach. America stands for feedom. Military action is not the only way to intervene. Unrelenting focus, pressure, can work. Have we sent home the Ambassador from China? Have we called for an emergency meeting of the Security Council? I keeep hoping for clear, bold leadership from the White House. America would stand together on this one. Where the hell is the clarian call. Lead, damit. Lead!
Well, I have to admit, until Bush gave his speech at the UN about the problems in Burma, I really hadn't heard about it.
I'm not really sure what's going on there. But, I have to wonder... if Americans don't care about conflicts in places with people who want to kill us, how can the President get anyone fired up about a place which has two names and which less than 2% of Americans could identify on a map?
Symbolism! Burma is symbolic of people yearning for freedom. The people of Iraq don't seem to really care about democracy one way or another. Here- Burma- is a case where the native people are willing to die for democracy. This could be held up as an example for all the world to see- perhaps even the people of Iraq who really don't seem to "get it.
Your question about how the Prsident could get anyone fired up appears to place the blame for the lack of passion with the American people. The sad truth is- Bush himself doesn't have the ability to lead, to inspire. Another opportunity missed - an opportunity that could have a major impact on what is happening in Iraq. Our country ackes for a new President!
I am conservative and opinionated. The essence of this site, and my views of online blogging, are reflected in the following quote by the late Daniel Patrick Moynihan.
"Everyone is entitled to their own opinion; they're not entitled to their own facts"
