How Much Is That?

Governor Paterson made an impassioned speech to NY State Legislators yesterday, as they gathered for the special session he called to deal with the State's $3.2 billion deficit.

He said he was willing to take the heat for proposing unpopular budget cuts. Paterson emphasized the point by saying that he was willing to "mortgage his political future" over the steps needed to close the deficit.

Someone should tell him that given his current re-election chances, his political future won't qualify for a mortgage.

I say let him 'mortgage' his future. You may get the chance to foreclose on it. Wouldn't that be a gas?! I betcha can't wait to send the sheriff and the eviction vans to the Governor's mansion. But then again, if the vans are not available you can always leave his stuff on the curb. Too bad we can't evict the rest of the louses in Albany too.

Grand political speeches, poor governmental decisions. That is what this 3/4 term Governor will be known for.

I received an e-mail from his campaign seeking support.

I wrote bake to suggest that he not run for the good of the Democratic Party.

There is no question that Paterson (fairly or not) has become so unpopular that his staying in a race for Governor would really hurt the Democrats.

I cannot believe he will really stay in the race, once Andrew Cuomo throws his hat in officially. If he takes it to a primary, the Democrats could have real trouble.

I pray that Governor Dave stays in the race. The Democrats will have a bloody primary, expose their faults & weaknesses and burn up their cash.
The NY Indian tribes will be at Gov. Dave's heels over taxation of cigarettes sold on their sovereign land.
This will give Rudy G. a great chance to get out there and campaign on lower taxes and smaller government in NYS.
