Desperate Again

Well, the Gates Democrats have gone all in on bogus "guilt by association" politics.

They know they are behind so they have sent out a shameful "robutrad" mail piece, hoping to get Gates residents to conclude that the GOP in town is corrupt, because its former committee chairman has been accused of crimes.

The Democrats are insulting the intelligence of Gates residents and they are unfairly smearing two fine public officials, who their own DA has said did nothing wrong.

I guess this is always the way it is. You can't win the battle of ideas, so you opt for a mud-slinging strategy. Problem is, when you throw mud, some of it gets on you.

Bad luck for you Democrats. The people in town are too smart for this. You will lose the election anyway and you had to give up your self-respect in this pitiful, losing effort.

Repoman, I agree. When a Democrat challenging candidate has nothing to offer, they sling mud and lies.

Our current MC Legislator S.T., stopped by my house on the campaign trail and listened to my concerns. He was very polite and took some notes. I have his sign in my front yard ! The Democrat challenger did NOT stop by and has been sending me all sorts of negative mailers.
The two worst are trying to tie in Robutrad to the election and also crying "Unfair" for a mailer that S.T. did NOT send out.

Well this Democrat appears to be a whining, sniveling crybaby who's is TOO THIN Skinned to be a politician. S.T. has my vote as well as many of my neighbors'.

I also received that poisoned robotrad card. It turned me off.

Interestingly, after I posted a comment in the Gates blog saying I was supporting Assini - and that I liked McIntee but thought him better suited to the Town Board at this time - McIntee came campaigning in my neighborhood. I was sitting in my living room, in plain view. He walked up to the front door, stuck some literature in the handle, then turned and walked away. No knock, no attempt to engage in dialogue. I didn't want to run to the door and call out to him as he headed down the street, so, nada.

Sigh.

On the other hand ... Steve T does seem to follow the party line too much, and even got a slap on the wrist for doing so in terms of some campaign literature. I want to see a bit more fight, a bit more independence out of him.

Assini looks like he will bring some changes, and talks about some things that are not business as usual. That's one reason why I'm supporting him. Besides, he owes me coffee, too, and I want him narby so I can collect!

Lee:

I am no babe in the woods when it comes to politics. I expected some robutrad fall-out. But, the attempt at hanging it on Elaine and Frank really ticks me off.

The DA, Sheriff and FBI all looked at this and concluded that Elaine and Frank did not do anything wrong. That piece was quintessential negative campaigning; nothing more than a smear.

Take Mark McIntee's other piece regarding his "no" votes (which, by the way, represented 99% of his disagreements with the GOP majority). That piece was politics, not dirty politics, like this one.

We'll see next week whether or not voters see through such efforts.

I have to give McIntee credit.

After seeing my comment, he stopped by my house today. He explained that he'd been out on a literature drop that day, and that it was not an intentional avoiding of me.

He also said he was not happy about the offinding peice ot literature, and that he'd actaully tried to get them to tone it down.

Anyway, I give him kudoos for stopping by.

It also gave me a chance to share with him my unhapiness about a house being built across the street on an undersized lot that may have been snuck through the approval process. He's going to look into it. If he can get some answers - and maybe even get it stopped - he will get a lot of votes on my street (including my wifes!).

Its interesting when I read these comments to your latest blog that it reads just like my latest blog about these attack mailings(see sad beavers). I too, am sick of them trying to tie something around the necks of two fine people who were just innocent pawns. I also hope that Steve T. shows a bit more independence from the 'party line' but he is still getting my vote as Frank M. has told me nothing but crappola in every single one of his mailings. It would be nice to find out where Frank stands on any issue, just one would be nice.
I received another two mailings today and I believe that ups my grand total to somewhere over 150 for this election season.
Count me as another middle lefty voting for the Gates GOP!
I cannot wait for election day so that this year's nonsense will end.

Sorry, Lee, but you should not let McIntee off so easily. This is not the first time he has claimed he "did not agree with the message".

He wants to be the Supervisor of the Town, doesn't he? Is he a leader or a helpless waif?

If he thought the message should have been toned down, he should have insisted it be toned down or he should publicly disavow it.

Mark always tries to have it both ways. He takes a shot at you, and then he sees you and says he didn't mean it or he was misquoted or misunderstood.

I'm not buying it. You shouldn't either.

As far as the house you mentioned, what is the address? Have you or any neighbors asked anyone at Town Hall about it?

Not sure of the address of the house. I'm at 114 Downsview - so it might be something like 121.

What happened was they sought a variance becuase it's an undersized lot and posted a sign about the zoning/planning board meeting (not sure which). My wife and many of the neighbors went and protested, and it got shot down.

They then scheduled another hearing, but did not put up a new sign. They just kept up the old sign and marked in marker the new date. Then it rained.

No one spotted the new date - they just thought that it was the old sign simply left up. The variance got approved - and the first time we found out was when construction began.

People began raising a ruckuss about the way it was being built, and even Ralph came out. The project stopped. Then started again. Then stopped again. They just started again.

It's a mess.
