Governor Paterson announced last week that he was delaying setting a date for a special election to replace Eric Massa, who resigned his seat in NY's 29th Congressional District.
Paterson's statement indicated his concerns about the costs of a special election and the burdens it would place on County governments. What a crock! Paterson has been an Albany pol for decades. He never saw a dime he didn't want to spend. Why does he have "religion" now on the cost of a special in the 29th? Its simply because the Democrats don't have a candidiate.
The GOP's likely nominee, Corning Mayor, Tom Reed, has been campaigning and he has a fundraising advantage. The Dems are squabbling. David Koon announced yesterday that he was taking himself out of the race. Its simply not clear who they will run.
So once again we have the spectacle of Democrats deciding for us whether or not we get what we want. Gov. Paterson and the Dems would rather let the seat stay vacant, and allow the 29th to be unrepresented in Congress, than cede any advantage to the GOP candidate. They just don't care what we think and they don't care about what's right. They only care about power.

Please! Please! try and be a bit less partisan. "Nothing But Politics" one could say that on just about every issue and it can be said of both parties. I have long ago given up any pipe dream about the Democrats being a party above politics and seeing it as a party that will ride to the rescue. But will you please admit that the Republican Prty is also not the savior of America's future. As the Bible says, when you are an adult you put away childish ways. Consider this:
Chairman Steele is the steward of the RNC's purse. Apparently it is normal to fly only first class, stay in $1,200 a night rooms, etc etc. Is there really that much difference between squandering tax payers money and squandering the money donated by I would believe, sincere and honest people ( with a big grain of salt) Where is Mitch McConnel, or tan boy himself, Boehner? Where's Palin? Why aren't they denouncing this and calling for Steele's resignation. They probably do not see anything wrong with such excess ( exactly where is Boehner getting that tan by the way and who is paying for the trips? I mean - not too sunny days in Ohio or DC in winter- so he's going somewhere) So now they want the government back in their fiscal hands. I'm open- but please - they need to show me something here!!!! Lead dam it ! Lead. Or is the whole fical conservatve talk on the part of the Republican Party, Nothing But Politics? Talk is cheap. Fire and obviously "not up to the job" manager. They have the power to fire him - let's see if they do. If they do not - it speaks volumes.

I've never claimed not to be partisan. There are plenty of people in the blogosphere (and in the mainstream media) who regularly criticise GOP excess, so I don't need to.
Still, I'm no fan of Steele or Boehner. I think the Tea Party movement is beyond party labels, but the excesses of the Democrats deal with treating us like we are subjects and they are royalty. There is a fundamental difference in the way they have gone since Obama became President.
If the GOP replaces the Dems in November, but they don't govern appropriately, the same Tea Party movement will throw them out, too. I hope the GOP has actually gotten the message. I am not sure they have, but I hope so.
